A smaller bore/ longer stroke vs. a bigger bore/ shorter stroke of about the same displacement (ie. 305 vs. 302) should get better mileage. The longer stroke should make better low end torque which should help with mileage.ALTHOUGH i had a 355 with a big solid lift cam, and brodix 200race rite heads that was 11.5-1. changed the bottom end to a 383, dropped the compression to 8.5-1 (for procharger) and went to solid roller. the 383 would KILL the 355 motor for motor. in other words the low compression 383 would kill the higher compression 355. both can run well.Nov 7, 2009. #1.
