The .45-70 is a classic cartridge but can really be a bear when it comes to recoil loaded to modern performance capabilities. Reloading needs will vary from one rifle to another. My interest is in the target shooting, but whitetails and even black bear would be quite within it's realm. The 45-70, is bigger. It takes more powder.Bullet fit is critical when using cast bullets. With good bullet fit, 1.5" groups are possible with the 444 at 100 yards. Again plain base bullets do not do well above 1200 fps.
