I honestly rarely see places in the US not take Discover. Pretty much every corporate retail chain (except Costco) accepts it. Some small businesses might not take it. You will have a very hard time using it abroad though. I have had success using it in Japan, but pretty much no success in China (even though Discover advertises high acceptance).
